AI Sakhi is built on the belief that rural India should not just receive artificial intelligence — it should learn to question it, verify it, and use it on its own terms. Why Girls?
Confidence, built early
Rural India is rich in talent but unequal in opportunity. Beginning with girls puts confidence-building where it changes the shape of a life the most — and where it is too often missing.
Why Class VII?
Old enough, young enough
Class VII students can reason and question, but have not yet hardened into self-doubt about technology. It is the age where habits of curiosity are still being formed.

Why we are not teaching AI programming
Coding is a valuable skill for some. Asking good questions, verifying an answer, and knowing when to trust a machine is a skill every person needs. AI Sakhi teaches the second — deliberately, before the first.

What every AI Sakhi school carries

Why we resist rushing
A programme that races to look finished by month three rarely survives to month twenty-four. Four phases spread across six months give a school room to stumble, adjust, and steady itself before anyone is asked to judge the result.

What four national experiments taught us
AI Sakhi was not designed in isolation. Before drawing the first blueprint, we studied how China, Finland, Sweden and Denmark are building AI-ready citizens — and asked what a rural Indian village could actually use.

Why we studied four countries before writing one lesson plan
None of these systems can be copied whole into a Punjab village school. But each solved one piece of the same puzzle — reach, trust, pacing, ambition — and a rural Indian lab does not have to solve all four from scratch.
One Lab, Three Audiences
A timetable before a blueprint
A lab that runs one school-day shift for children, an early-evening shift for young adults, and a weekend-morning shift for older adults can serve an entire village from a single room. Nothing about the physical space needs to double; only its hours need to widen.

Two tiers, designed for rural conditions first
Essential Tier
Fifteen budget laptops or Chromebooks, one shared projector or interactive display, a basic wired or mobile-data connection, a secure charging cabinet, and battery backup sized to cover common local power cuts.
Enhanced Tier
Everything in the Essential Tier, plus a dedicated broadband connection, a small offline AI toolkit for low-connectivity days, additional devices to shorten sharing time, and a basic recording setup for the monthly Open House.
Lessons and prompt libraries are stored locally, AI tools run in an offline or low-bandwidth mode, and no session ever fully depends on a live connection. Content filtering keeps activities age-appropriate, no open social media is used during sessions, accounts need no personal information beyond a first name, and student data is never sold or shared. Equipment is reviewed every year — failures retired, affordable upgrades added, fit to tier confirmed.

Why we do not chase the newest tool
A rural lab that depends on the latest hardware breaks the day the hardware stops being available or affordable. AI Sakhi is built to age well — reviewed and refreshed annually, never redesigned around whatever tool is newest.
Part Four · Curriculum

Every learner in an AI Sakhi lab builds the same core abilities. How those abilities are taught — the pace, the projects, the language — changes with who is in the room.

All three tracks share the same physical lab, the same AI Sakhi Charter, and the same portfolio-based approach to progress. A young person who completes the Youth Track is welcome to mentor in the School Track. Measure growth, not fear
Every learner, in every track, keeps a portfolio — prompts they’re proud of, a project built, a short reflection. There is no ranking against other learners, no published scores, and no track turned into competition, apart from the School Track’s own Village Innovation Challenge, which is celebratory by design rather than comparative.
What Moves Upward
Individual portfolios stay private to the learner. What reaches the School Committee and the Nexus3P Programme Team is aggregated and anonymous: attendance across tracks, the number of completions, and a small set of indicators — confidence, application of skills, community sentiment — gathered through simple surveys rather than testing.
A Certificate That Means Something
Youth and Adult Track participants who complete their cycle receive a Nexus3P Foundation Certificate of Completion, noting the track and the skills covered. It is not a government qualification, and the programme is careful never to describe it as one — its value lies in what it documents honestly.

Why the Adult Track has no final exam
Adults come to the lab around work, family, and the harvest. A sequence that depends on every session is a sequence that punishes real life. Each of the eight adult weeks stands on its own, so missing one costs nothing but that week’s topic.
Part Five · Our People
The people behind the lab
More tracks mean more hands. As a school takes on Youth and Adult Tracks alongside School, AI Sakhi grows its team the way it grows everything else — from within the village first.

The Lab Coordinator is usually the senior AI Teacher Champion, responsible for the shared timetable across all three shifts and equipment upkeep. The Youth Track is best led by someone closer in age to its participants — a recent graduate, a college student home for the term, or an alumnus of the track itself. The Adult Track is best led by a respected, familiar figure — a retired teacher, an Anganwadi worker, or a local self-help-group leader who already has the community’s trust.

Volunteers, not vacancies
None of these roles are conceived as new salaried positions. Most begin as a modest honorarium for a few hours a week, filled by people already invested in the village’s future — recruited from the community first, not hired from outside it.

A ladder any facilitator can climb
Nexus3P trains a small number of Master Trainers directly, who then train the AI Teacher Champions, Youth Facilitators and Community Facilitators at each participating school — letting the programme grow without the Foundation growing at the same pace.

Every facilitator, at any level, joins a short monthly check-in with their Lab Coordinator or Master Trainer — not a formal review, but a chance to raise issues before they become a reason to quit. The long-term goal: every participating district eventually has enough of its own Master Trainers that it no longer depends on the Nexus3P Programme Team for day-to-day training.

Why we promote from within
Master Trainers are selected from among the strongest AI Teacher Champions already in the programme — no Master Trainer has ever been hired from outside it. People who have taught the first session nervously themselves are the ones best placed to coach the next person through it.

Why we will say no to a willing school
An eager school is not the same as a ready one. Saying no — for now — to a willing school protects the lab that isn’t steady yet, and protects the one that hasn’t opened yet from inheriting problems the first lab never solved.
What Success Looks Like at Scale
Success at scale looks exactly like success in one village, repeated: a weekly rhythm that runs on its own, a community that speaks about the lab with warmth, and a growing number of local Master Trainers who no longer need the Foundation standing beside them. The measure of AI Sakhi’s success was never the number of labs built. It is the number of villages that no longer need Nexus3P Foundation to keep theirs running well.
